ASAM for Livestock Operations
Beef cattle, swine, sheep, and goats all benefit from facility-wide water-line inoculation. ASAM shifts the microbial environment away from the putrefactive bacteria responsible for feedlot odors, manure lagoon emissions, and poor manure compostability.
The Feedlot and Confinement Problem
High-density livestock operations concentrate organic waste faster than soil-based microbial systems can process it. The result is putrefactive dominance: ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and volatile fatty acid emissions that create odor pressure on neighbors, regulatory scrutiny, and poor working conditions.
Fermentative microbial inoculants added to the water supply establish a competing biological force throughout the facility. Rather than treating symptoms (masking odor), they redirect the microbial community at the source — in the water, gut, manure, and lagoon — toward fermentative pathways that produce significantly less odor, methane, and ammonia.
Swine operations in particular have reported dramatic odor reduction using continuous water-line fermentation programs. Why fermentative leadership changes everything →

Facility Water-Line (Pump House)
| Animal | Dilution | Practical Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Beef Cattle | 1:640 | 1 oz per 5 gal water supply; continuous |
| Swine | 1:640 | 1 oz per 5 gal water supply; continuous |
| Sheep & Goats | 1:640 | 1 oz per 5 gal water supply; continuous |
Per-Head Drinking Water
| Animal | Dilution | Daily Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Beef Cattle | 1:500 | 3–5 oz per head in drinking water |
| Swine | 1:1000 | ¾ tsp per gallon of drinking water |
| Sheep & Goats | 1:1000 | ¾ tsp per gallon of drinking water |
Manure, Lagoon & Environment
| Application | Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Manure lagoon | 1:500–1:1000 | Apply weekly to surface; reduces H₂S and ammonia volatilization |
| Barn / pen spray | 1:100 | Spray floors, walls, and concrete surfaces to reduce odor and fly habitat |
| Feed additive | 1% of feed weight | Spray on feed; mix before feeding; supports gut microbial environment |
| Compost windrows | 1–2 L per m³ | Inoculate manure-based compost to accelerate decomposition and reduce odor |
Do not use with chlorinated water. All rates require continuous daily application to maintain the shifted microbial environment.
